37. Scratch-Free Conveying of Sensitive Metal Plates Using a Brush Conveyor Belt

The Challenge

During the production of metal plates, internal conveying is often an underestimated source of product damage. Although products may be handled carefully throughout the manufacturing process, conventional conveyor belts can still cause scratches, scuff marks, or surface impressions. For products with visible surfaces or high-quality finishes, this can result in rejected parts, additional handling, or costly rework.

One of our customers needed a solution to transport metal plates completely scratch-free between different production stages. To achieve this, BCK Holland designed and manufactured a conveyor system based on a modular tabletop chain fitted with brush bristles.

The Solution

The conveyor is built around a modular brush conveyor chain, where each module is equipped with flexible synthetic bristles. Instead of resting directly on a hard plastic or steel surface, the metal plates are supported by thousands of soft fibers.

This creates an exceptionally gentle conveying surface that protects sensitive products from scratches and other forms of surface damage.

The soft bristles move underneath the product while maintaining stable and reliable transportation. Even in accumulation zones or situations where products come into light contact with each other, the risk of surface damage is minimized.

Why Choose a Brush Conveyor Belt?

Traditional conveyor systems can be vulnerable to contamination. Small metal particles, chips, dust, or debris may become trapped between the product and the conveyor surface, leading to unwanted scratches.

With a brush conveyor belt, contaminants fall between the bristles instead of remaining on the conveying surface. As a result, they are far less likely to come into contact with the product, helping to maintain a damage-free process.
